10 Questions to Ask Any Phone Company Before You Sign

We’re obviously not neutral — we’d love to be your phone company. So instead of telling you to pick us, here are the ten questions we’d ask anyone selling you a phone system, including us. Honest providers answer all ten without flinching.

The money questions

1. What’s the all-in monthly price, with every fee and tax listed? The advertised price and the invoice price are different animals at many carriers. Demand the invoice number.

2. Is there a contract, and what does leaving cost? Multi-year contracts with early-termination fees are how bad service keeps customers. (Radvox: no contracts, ever.)

3. What costs extra later? Auto-attendants, queues, recordings, extra greetings — the à-la-carte menu is where bills grow. (Ours: included.)

4. What does installation cost, and who does it? “Self-install kits” mean you’re the technician. (Ours: free, done for you.)

The ownership questions

5. Do I keep my phone number if I leave? The answer must be an unqualified yes — it’s your number by law, but obstruction is a dark art.

6. Who owns the phones? Leased hardware is a leash. Know before you sign.

The support questions

7. When I call support, who answers — and from where? Ask them to describe an actual support interaction. Ticket-queue answers tell you everything.

8. What happens after hours when my phones are down? Outages don’t keep business hours.

9. Who handles the switchover from my current provider? Porting numbers is where DIY migrations go to die.

10. Can you give me three customers my size to call? Not logos — phone numbers of businesses like yours.

Bring this list to our competitors. Genuinely. Then bring it to us — 801-990-4444 — and grade the answers side by side. We like our odds.
